'A Fascinating Read', says David Parry
Mike's book, 'The Search For Myself' is an honest and fascinating account of one of the longest
journeys by a key individual in British popular music. This is no smooth ride
though and the story is one of fairly rapid success followed by a long period of
professional frustration culminating in a legal battle. Mike sets the record
straight over the split of the band from his point of view without descending
into any personal attacks or attempts at character assassination.
Mike's decision to form his own band is justified not only from the clear
upturn in finances but from the lighter style of his writing when discussing the
more recent music history. The book is littered with amusing incidents,
tragedies and some very interesting characters. Mike tells his story with
honesty and in the way he sings ie straight from the heart.
This is a must read not only for lovers of The Searchers/Mike Pender's
Searchers or of Merseybeat but of anyone interested in a story of someone who
put an indelible stamp on the music world, not only from 3 number ones and other
big pop hits but the influence that can be heard daily around the world in so
many major music acts.
