Talented singer-songwriter Jackie DeShannon is the soulful voice behind Burt Bacharach & Hal David's 'What The World Needs Now Is Love' and her own 'Put A Little Love In Your Heart'. She has created a diverse range of music including rock, folk, R&B, country, gospel, reggae and jazz and her compositions have been performed by The Searchers, Brenda Lee, The Byrds, Marianne Faithfull, Al Green, Annie Lennox, The Carpenters, Kim Carnes, The Temptations, Ricky Nelson, Cher, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen and many more.
Jackie's career began on the radio during her teens. Amongst her earliest recordings was her Buddy Holly tribute composition, 'Buddy'. She wrote dozens of songs with Sharon Sheeley, followed by collaborations with Randy Newman, Jack Nitzsche and Jimmy Page. In 1964, she toured as an opening act for The Beatles. In 2010, she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
At 68-years of age, Jackie's performances are still identifiable yet quite different, particularly with acoustic renditions of her well-known songs on her album 'When You Walk In The Room'. All of the tracks on this album were either written, or co-written, by Jackie. The exceptions being 'What The World Needs Now' (Bacharach-David) also the Jack Nitzsche-Sonny Bono composition, 'Needles and Pins' and the final track, her most recent single, 'Will You Stay in My Life?'
